Roctopus Dive is a progressive dive centre. At all times were thinking of and implementing new strategies to keep us at the forefront of the S.E.A dive industry.  We want to be known as the shop that provides the best training in the best atmosphere. In order to do that, we have made some key staff promotions. This week at our staff meeting we promoted three instructors to Head Instructor positions and in doing so created a hierarchical approach to our team of professionals. So here we go, a background check of the trio of Head Instructors.

First up is our man from the Uk. Nick or “Minty” as he is known at the shop.

Growing up in the UK left Minty dissatisfied with what life was all about. To make matters worse, Minty worked  as an Insurance Broker, snappin’ necks and cashin’ cheques. This fortunately gave him enough ‘ump to leave and with Pounds Sterling in the bank Minty found himself in Marbella, Spain. Life was tough in the Med where Minty worked on a parasailing boat off the beach. In need of a break, Minty came in search of some R&R Thai style and in true Koh Tao form, three weeks became a year. During this time Minty completed his dive master certification and was actively employed in the dive industry. Next stop, Australia where he completed his Instructor rating and began a year of diving in the Australian dive industry. This will prepare an Instructor for anything and with much experience in the bag he came back to Koh Tao. Accepting a position at one of the islands original dive shops, Simple Life. A bond with the island was firmly planted but with the second year Australia Work Visa kicking in, Minty shipped back to Oz for work on the infamous “Taka” liveaboard dive boat, diving the Coral Sea.

It was life on the open ocean that led Minty to his next position aboard “MY Seafaris” as dive instructor/deckhand. Yep, that kind of job happens in the dive industry! Back to Thailand he went this time to gain the essential STCW 95 needed for employment on the superyachts. Once completed, Minty could not resist the urge for a quick stop on Koh Tao. Gravity kicked in and another year of dive instructing later, Minty was back across the Sea, this time to begin an affair with the super yachts. Multiple contracts later and having dived/sailed his way through Langkawi, Maldives, Majorca, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Spain and Montenegro it was time for land and back to Koh Tao. At this point a sun battered, salty sea dog, Minty went back to concentrating on his dive instructing and we snapped him up. Minty is a big character and likes nothing more than to take ‘selfies’ with the boat camera – apart from this, he’s a top bloke. His passion for the water is evident and his experience invaluable. He’s a natural entertainer with a big heart and we look forward to seeing him shine in this new role.
